UNICEF Deputy Representative Impressed by Kerman University of Medical Sciences
Dr. Monika Nielsen, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Iran, praised the research and scientific capacity of Kerman University of Medical Sciences during a meeting with Dr. Hashemian, the university’s president.
Dr. Hashemian outlined the university’s history and highlighted the challenges posed by sanctions, war, and undocumented migration on public health in southeastern Iran. He stressed the importance of international cooperation, noting that collaboration with UNICEF can strengthen regional health management.
Dr. Nielsen, expressing appreciation for the warm welcome, said she was impressed by the university’s broad scientific activities: “Our cooperation is not only about financial resources. What truly amazed me was the wide range of scientific work I observed here.” She emphasized that the university could serve as a national hub of scientific achievement and affirmed UNICEF’s commitment to partnership in research, knowledge exchange, and new areas of collaboration.
At the end of the meeting, proposals for strengthening cooperation were presented and are under consideration for formalization through a memorandum of understanding.
