Kerman University of Medical Sciences Rises 76 Places in the 2025–2026 U.S. News Global Ranking
The 2025–2026 Best Global Universities Rankings released by U.S. News & World Report have been published, and Kerman University of Medical Sciences (KMU) achieved a significant advancement by rising 76 positions to rank 1176 globally.
According to the Public Relations Office of Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Hamid Sharifi, Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology, stated that the U.S. News global ranking system has been developed to provide a clearer comparison of higher education institutions worldwide. This ranking aims to identify universities with strong global reputations and substantial scientific research output, helping prospective students from around the world make informed decisions.
He added that only institutions that have published at least 1,250 scientific articles indexed in the Web of Science over the past five years are included in this evaluation system.
Dr. Sharifi further explained that U.S. News uses 13 key indicators to assess institutions, including: global research reputation, regional research reputation, number of publications, books, conference papers, normalized citation impact, total citations, number and percentage of publications among the top 10% most cited papers, international collaboration (relative to country), international collaboration (overall), number of highly cited papers among the top 1%, and the percentage of such highly cited papers.
He noted that universities from the United States and more than 100 other countries have been evaluated based on these indicators, with a total of 2,250 top universities worldwide included in the ranking. In the 2025–2026 U.S. News Global Ranking, 69 Iranian universities were listed.
Dr. Sharifi concluded by emphasizing that Kerman University of Medical Sciences has secured a global rank of 1176, and among the 22 Iranian medical universities present in this ranking, it stands at 11th place, reflecting a 76-position improvement compared to the previous year.
